The Future

Present day nappies / diapers are all in one, thin, ultra absorbable with easy fastenings. They are wonderful and have come a huge way forward from Paddi at the beginning.

The problem now is environmental.

Paddi was a 2 part system, in which only the pad was disposed of.

The modern nappies / diapers are 'all in one' and the whole thing, plastic and all, has to be either burnt or buried. Neither of which is good for the environment.

There is a lobby for a return to Terry Nappies / Diapers.

Perhaps a better solution would be a return to a Paddi type of product, in which only the pad is disposed of.

With Paddi Pads the cellulose wadding (which is completely water soluble) could safely be put down the loo. Only the top layer of cotton wool required burning or burying and even that would safely decompose in time.

Perhaps there are still lessons to be learnt from Paddi.
